BACKGROUND INFORMATION
SO, WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?
On September 11, 2001 a terrible attack took place at the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York City, at the Pentagon Building in Washington, D.C., and in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Nineteen militants in which were part of Al Qaeda terrorist group had flown four planes and crashed them into three locations that are mentioned above. Bin Laden was the founder of Al Qaeda and worked to complete this attack and killed everyone who was aboard.The attackers were were all Islamic and where known as the Taliban that ran Afghanistan's government.

WHO WAS INVOLVED?
- Al Qaeda: a group of terrorists that was led by Osama Bin Laden
- Osama Bin Laden: was the founder of Al Qaeda, the militant Islamist organization
- Taliban: an Islamic group that ran Afghanistan's government
- Saddam Hussein: the fifth president of Iraq who was accused of hiding " Weapons of Mass Destruction "
WHEN WERE THE MAJOR DATES? (TIMELINE OF EVENTS)
The major events started at about 8:46 a.m. when the first airliner, American Flight 11 crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Then at 9:03 a.m., United Flight 175 crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center. A couple of minutes later, another plane crashed into the Pentagon at 9:40 a.m., American Flight 77. At 9:59 a.m., the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed and about 10:07 a.m. United flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, Pa., southeast of Pittsburgh, PA.. Then unfortunately at 10:28 a.m., the north tower of the World Trade Center collapsed as well. At 5:25 p.m. the empty, 47-story Seven World Trade Center collapses, sending rescue workers running for their lives.

WHY DID AL QAEDA ATTACK US?
- This events occurred because of a conflict over Americans attempts to control the financial military and political aspects of Life in the Middle East. It’s about the people who have and the people who don’t have. When they compare their quality of life to the quality of life in America they believe they are getting a bad deal. The more fanatical believers risk their lives to attack the U.S. They think this will express how wrong the U.S is.
HOW DID AMERICA RESPOND TO THIS ATTACK?
In October 2001, the U.S. and its allies had invaded Afghanistan, where Al Qaeda was located. Ever since 2001, many Al Qaeda members have been captured or killed. Then years later on May 1, 2011, U.S. troop had killed Bin Laden where he was hiding in Pakistan. After invading Afghanistan we invaded Iraq in 2003.
WHY DID WE GO TO WAR?
The reason why the U.S. went to war with Iraq was because President George W. Bush and other U.S. leaders believed that the country's dictator, Saddam Hussein, was hiding terrible weapons that could be given to terrorists. Following 9/11, the U.S. government took many steps in order to make the country safer. For example it drastically changed security at airports and in buildings. Due to 9/11 several acts were passed in order to protect the United States from terrorism which were:
